Travel Tips
The small habits and lessons that make travel smoother, wherever you’re headed.
A few simple habits go a long way toward a smoother trip. Here are the ones I come back to on nearly every trip I take.
General Travel Tips
- Arrive a day early for anything time-sensitive. — Give yourself a buffer before flights, cruises, or tours in case of delays.
- Keep a digital and physical copy of key documents. — Passport, insurance, and confirmations, both on your phone and printed.
- Learn a few local phrases. — Hello, please, thank you, and excuse me go a long way, even with just a handful of words.
- Fight jet lag with light, not caffeine. — Get outside in daylight as soon as you land to help reset your internal clock faster.
- Keep some cash on hand. — Cards aren’t accepted everywhere, and small vendors especially often expect cash.
- Build in downtime. — Packing every hour of every day leads to burnout. Leave room to slow down.
