Every trip has a short list of things that matter more than the rest of your packing list. Handle these before you leave and everything else falls into place.
Before You Leave Home
- Check passport expiration. — Many countries require at least six months of validity remaining, so check this well before booking.
- Look into visa requirements early. — Some visas take days or weeks to process, so confirm requirements as soon as your destination is set.
- Get travel insurance. — It covers far more than lost luggage, including medical emergencies and trip cancellations.
- Check vaccine and health requirements. — Some destinations require or recommend specific vaccinations well ahead of travel.
- Notify your bank of your travel dates. — It helps avoid your card being flagged and frozen for “suspicious” activity abroad.
- Save digital and physical copies of key documents. — Keep a copy of your passport and confirmations both on your phone and printed, in case either fails.
